The Digital University Kerala is Partnered With World Health Organization and United Nations for Disaster Management

The University of Kerala name “Digital University Kerala” has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and World Health Organization (WHO) in order to conduct two weeks Knowledge workshop on theme “Integration of Digital Technologies in Disaster Preparedness“. This knowledge workshop will start from the date May 16, 2022 and it will end on May 27, 2022.

The main Aim of this partnership is as follows –

  • Provide awareness about digital technology
  • What is the reason behind the lacking of understanding the new technologies
  • How can we develop skills for understanding new technologies easily
  • How to handle broad application of new technologies for disaster management

In the statement given by the Digital University Kerala said that this workshop is a collaboration of Sinnu Susan Thomas, Assistant Professor at Digital University Kerala, Edilson K. Arruda, Lecturer at University of Southampton, UK and they will funded by the British Council’s ‘Going Global Partnerships Exploratory Grant’.

According to United Nations Environment Program, despite the phenomenal growth of digital technologies in all aspects of human existence, which has essentially ushered in a fourth Industrial Revolution, the enormous potential of current technologies in disaster management and catastrophe risk reduction remains underutilized.

The main aim of this program is to enhance capacity among government officials, students, and anybody else interested in disaster management using current technology. It was also hoped that the event will increase the audience’s grasp of the complexity of digital technology, particularly artificial intelligence, and allow them to make educated decisions in this sector.

Important points of discussion in this workshop will be Response and recuperation are aided by learning, catastrophes from a visual standpoint, drones and robots to rescue, assistive speech, trial and error in emergency networking, disaster management related challenges, optimizing and modelling logistics operations in difficult environments, as well as logistical challenges in humanitarian missions.
